Industry Snapshot :-

Indian aviation industry today is on the threshold of entering into a new era where it will assume greater responsibility in making the nation self-reliant in Defence Production. The Indian Aerospace Industry is witnessing an unprecedented growth. Not only are the profits soaring, the sector is also making its presence felt abroad as many Indian firms are becoming transnational companies. Aerospace is a very diverse field, with a multitude of commercial, industrial and military applications. The term is used to refer to the industry that researches, designs, manufactures, operates, and maintains vehicles moving through air and space . Aerospace manufacturing is a high technology industry that produces "aircrafts, guided missiles, space vehicles, aircraft engines, propulsion units, and related parts". In India, Bangalore is a major center of the aerospace industry The Indian defence industry is the third largest importer of defence hardware in the world with US$ 100 billion worth of defence aircraft expected to be acquired and inducted in the next 10 years. The industry is poised for exponential growth in the coming years with MNCs and Indian organizations setting up Greenfield operations and also expanding their existing capacities. There is thus an enormous potential and huge opportunity for collaboration and creation of joint ventures in the aerospace sector in India for establishing Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) facilities for civil and military aircraft, overhaul and maintenance of aero engines and production of avionics, components and accessories both in the civil and military aviation sectors. Major global aviation industry are already eyeing the local market in India and scouting for outsourcing aerospace and defence products as India is fast catching up as a center for engineering and design services for this sector.

The civil aviation sector in India had been growing at a dramatic rate. Domestic air traffic is projected to grow by up to 180 million passengers and international traffic by 50 million passengers by 2020. International traffic is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 8 percent by 2013 and by 7 percent from 2014 to 2023. Domestic traffic is expected to experience a slower growth rate of 3.4 percent annually until 2013 and then increase to an average rate of growth of 8 percent until 2023.
